Which Medicare Plan is Right for Me?

Medicare is divided into several parts: Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B), Medicare Advantage (Part C), Medicare Part D, and Medicare Supplements. Before you enroll in a Medicare plan, it is important to carefully consider your options and your healthcare needs among other factors. In this guide, we’ll explain how to select the best Medicare plan for you.

Look At Coverage

To determine if a plan is right for you, you need to consider your healthcare needs and check the plan’s coverage features. This is highly important as you need a plan that covers your health needs.

Medicare Part A and Part B, also known as Original Medicare, cover inpatient and outpatient hospital and medical services. If you take prescription drugs regularly, then you may need to enroll in Part D alongside Original Medicare since it does not provide this coverage. Original Medicare is the most standard form of Medicare and what Medicare enrollees will have to enroll in first.

If you have high out-of-pocket costs from Original Medicare, you can enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan.

If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare and like the coverage you get with it but want more, you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan. You can’t have a Medicare Supplement while enrolled in Medicare Advantage, so do keep that in mind. However, with Medicare Advantage, you can get the same coverage as Original Medicare including extra benefits, such as prescription drug, dental, hearing, and vision coverage.

Take A Look At Costs

Medicare plans do not cover all your healthcare costs. You’ll need to cover a certain percentage known as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Medicare plans also have monthly premiums which vary based on different factors.

If you need assistance with covering costs such as deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance, you can always look into a Medicare Supplement plan. If you find that it may be difficult to cover your Medicare premiums, you can apply for a Medicare Savings Program.
